The era of teasing is over — the news is true: on July 31, Intercell will arrive in the Hungarian capital at a fitting open-air location. Assisting them in bringing the event to life will be NVC, also known as co-founders of INOTA Festival, alongside the veteran Hungarian organizing collective Turbina, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.
What began in 2015 as a grassroots movement driven by pure passion has since evolved into an unavoidable force within modern club culture. In the early days, the founders organized illegal raves around Amsterdam, whether under bridges or inside squatted buildings. They had no money and no permanent venue, so they had little choice. Word of mouth did the work: friends invited friends, who invited even more friends — everyone came because everything felt raw and authentic. And it was simply too good to stay underground for long.
Today, Intercell is followed by hundreds of thousands on social media and regularly hosts sold-out events on the scale of festivals, yet they achieved this growth without ever straying from their original path. For them, independence is not just a trendy buzzword, but the very foundation they continue to build upon. They have even turned down major offers simply to preserve their creative freedom.
Even from this alone, it is easy to predict that the very first Budapest edition will not lack maximalism, and we are likely in for a memorable summer night — especially at an open-air venue.
