From Pécs to Debrecen, from Zákányszék to Pilisszentlászló, from Csikéria to Keszű, more than a thousand submissions once again arrived this year for Telekom Electronic Beats Hungary’s open call. Now in its fourth edition, the initiative set out to discover the most exciting new music from Hungary and beyond its borders, regardless of genre. The passion project continues its mission to uncover the next generation of artists who could shape the future of Hungary’s contemporary music culture.
The professional jury responsible for reviewing the submissions — in the pop category: Lenkke, our winner from two years ago Laurie, and Tícia from the band Girlhood; on the club music side: Slym from the techlab.bp crew, Bug, who recently presented a drum & bass mix on BBC Radio 1, and Technokunst founder Isu; while the experimental category was judged by EXILES label founder Erik Kolbenheyer, drummer and journalist Balázs Pándi, and curator of the House of Music Hungary András Halmos — worked together with the Telekom Electronic Beats team to make their often difficult decisions, ultimately shaping the final 30-track triple compilation.
And the spectrum is more colorful than ever: SZELEKTOR 26 features cosmically floating dreampop, dub-infused pressure, peak-time techno, drum & bass fusions spiraling along the Veszprém–Budapest axis, trance tailored for summer dawns, and experimental compositions built from the sounds of nature.
